Using ambient sounds from my current home of Tokyo and the surroundings I heard while living in New York, I composed two pieces of music. Because it incorporates my personal perspectives and impressions of the two cities I lived in, I believe this work truly helps identify as my own piece of music.
My main goal was to use the music I composed to contrast the ambiances of Tokyo and New York. To be more precise, I wanted to convey that Tokyo has a cozier, more nostalgic feel than New York City, while I attempted to create a chaotic, vibrant mood for the New York one.
Making the actual decision of which sounds to use was the difficult part. Although there are some sounds that both Tokyo and New York have in common, I had to choose sounds that were distinct and fitting for the atmosphere I wanted to create in each city. The software, equipment and websites I used for this is a PCM recorder, Freesound.org, Pexels.com, Logic Pro, Davinci Resolve.
